Earn Credits. Save Energy. Support Reliability.

Standby Generator

Join Tampa Electric's Standby Generator Program and earn monthly credits on your electric bill by using your standby generator when we need it most. Together, we can manage energy demand during peak times, helping to avoid costly investments in new power generation.

Why Enroll?

  • Save Money: Receive credits on your electric bill—even if we don’t call on your generator.
  • Support Sustainability: Help reduce strain on the grid and contribute to a more efficient energy future.
  • Stay in Control: Manage your participation with a secure online portal that provides instant access to your energy data.

How It Works

  1. Earn Monthly Credits: Receive $6.15 per average transferred kilowatt (kW) demand for your load transfers during peak periods. Your credit adjusts based on your energy contribution.
  2. Get Notifications Your Way: Choose how you'd like to be notified of events—via text, email or phone.
  3. Transfer Load When Notified: When notified, please shift load to your standby generator for up to:
  • 8 hours in summer
  • 5 hours in the morning or 4 hours in the evening in winter

You can expect Tampa Electric to suggest transferring your load to standby generator(s) during these prime hours:
